In a Twitter announcement, he stated that his office, after evaluation, is seeking to procure a vendor to begin using bitcoin in various capacities throughout the city. They will evaluate options for paying staff, collecting taxes, and collecting fees with cryptocurrencies.

The goal is to create a more crypto-forward community in Miami. This includes encouraging businesses to accept it as a form of payment. It also includes residents learning more about what cryptocurrencies are, how they can be used, and how can they serve as an investment. The Mayor’s office has also requested that the state acknowledge Bitcoin as an acceptable investment for the future of the city.
