Miami’s becoming a crypto-friendly county. Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins sponsored an item to create the city’s first cryptocurrency task force.
In a logical step towards becoming a crypto-friendly county, County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins sponsored the item to create the county’s first cryptocurrency task force. Her colleagues approved this item on the County Infrastructure Operations and Innovations Committee on Thursday, April 15.
Task Force Goals
Danielle Cohen Higgins has been a leader in supporting Mayor Francis Suarez’s #MiamiTECH movement. The proposed task force will be:
Studying the feasibility of Miami-Dade County accepting cryptocurrency and other digital monetary forms as an acceptable method of payment for County taxes, fees, and services.Identifying any costs associated with accepting cryptocurrency and other digital monetary forms as an acceptable method of payment for County taxes, fees, and services.Providing recommendations to the Board on other policy initiatives relating to cryptocurrencies that would be advantageous to Miami-Dade County.
The task force would also review what other cities, counties, or states have done with regards to cryptocurrency. It would be made of 13 members, appointed by city commissioners.They should have 5 years of experience in cryptocurrency, financial, banking, business development, or cybersecurity industries and be representative of the community-at-large.
The goal of the task force will be to create a recommendation within 6 months.

County Goals
Commissioner Cohen Higginsand other members of Miami-Dade County want to promote the interests of the entire county. While the City of Miami Mayor focuses on creating a tech-friendly environment within the City of Miami, Commissioner Cohen Higgins seeks to make sure the entire county is seen as a tech destination for investment and innovation.
